Do you have a social media policy?

We live in a world where social media has changed the way we communicate. For many individuals social media is second nature and very prevalent in their personal lives. Many individuals do not thoroughly understand how their personal social networks can directly reflect on their place of work especially when they directly associate themselves with their place of work. The explosion of social media has brought with it a wide array of difficulties in the business world including but not limited to:

· Privacy in the workplace
· Legal issues (harassment, confidentiality, etc.)
· Communication issues
· Productivity issues
· Inconsistency is representing the company brand image
· Misuse of company time and resources
· Disclosure of confidential and non-public company information

Does your company have a social media policy in place? If not, you should. Social media has an effect on both HR and marketing. Companies spend a great deal of money putting processes in place to create a productive and profitable business. A simple social media policy can ensure that user generated content is aligned with all the policies that are currently in place.
